How can YOU go Pink for the Cure?

Go pink in 5 simple steps:

1. Choose how you want to go pink.

Pink is not exclusive. Wrangle up everyone you know-- friends, family, co-workers, your neighborhood mailman.

4. Set your goal.

What's up with that Facebook status?

Recently, you may have noticed an abundance of seemingly risque Facebook statuses. If you're like me, you were probably baffled at the sight of "I like it on the desk" or "I like it on the kitchen counter" on your news feed. Don't worry, it isn't what you think!
The message behind the "I like it" trend is actually one that is very dear to our hearts.

Additional Research on Menopausal Hormone Therapy and Breast Cancer

A recent study of menopausal hormone therapy and risk of breast cancer reported that risk may vary by body weight and the type of hormone therapy. These results were published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers, & Prevention.

As women reach menopause and beyond, more than 80% will experience symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbance, and vaginal dryness. Estrogen, with or without progestin, is an effective treatment for many of these symptoms. Over the last several years, however, studies have raised important concerns about the health effects of menopausal hormone therapy.

Use of estrogen plus progestin has been linked with an increased risk of heart disease, breast cancer, stroke, and blood clots and a decreased risk of fractures and colorectal cancer. Use of estrogen alone, which is generally reserved for women who have had a hysterectomy, has been linked with an increased risk of strokes and a decreased risk of fractures.

Although it is now well established that menopausal hormone therapy with estrogen plus progestin increases the risk of breast cancer, researchers continue to explore the question of which subgroups of women are at greatest risk. This information would help personalize messages about the risks and benefits of hormone therapy.

Volunteer Opportunities!

We have a couple of volunteer opportunities on the horizon. Please let Natalie Whitlock know if you might be able to volunteer a little of your time to help at either of these events.

September 10 -
Eastman Road Race Expo
Hours are from noon - 8 pm but, you can volunteer any amount of time. We will have a “booth” at the expo with Komen material & race information along with giveaways.

September 10 -
Volunteer High School / Cherokee High School Football Game
We will have a Race for the Cure booth outside the stadium pre-game. We will be promoting the race with giveaways and giving out race registration forms 5:30 pm until game time at Volunteer High School in Church Hill. We see this as a great opportunity to reach out to people in Hawkins county as this is a huge rival game in the county.
